哈拉尔德·蓝牙（Harald Gormsson）是10世纪的丹麦国王，他统一了当时分裂的丹麦、挪威等北欧地区，并推动基督教传播，成为北欧历史上的重要人物。

传说他因酷爱蓝莓导致牙齿常年呈蓝色，故得名“蓝牙”（Bluetooth）。另有一说其名字“Blåtand”在古挪威语中意为“深色皮肤”或“深色牙齿”，英语化后成为“Bluetooth”。

1997年，英特尔工程师吉姆·卡达奇（Jim Kardach）在参与无线通信技术标准化会议时，受历史小说《长船》（The Long Ships）中哈拉尔德国王故事的启发，提议将此技术命名为“蓝牙”。

哈拉尔德国王统一北欧的成就，恰好契合该技术旨在统一不同设备通信协议的目标——打破当时移动电话、电脑等设备间互不兼容的局面，实现“无线互联互通”。

而蓝牙的经典符号也为北欧符文组合：

「ᚼ」（H）代表“Harald”
「ᛒ」（B）代表“Bluetooth”

这一设计直接致敬哈拉尔德国王的名字缩写。
